The problem

The problem

A doctor's office with acoustic problems. There are, unfortunately, very many like that (also read our blog on the subject). Dr. Céline Toussaint was also suffering from reverberation and poor acoustics in her doctor's office. That's why she contacted COUST Acoustics in the spring of 2018. We looked at photos of the room in question and received its exact dimensions. Based on this, we calculated how many m² of our acoustic material we would need to bring into the room to optimize its acoustics. We came up with 7 m² of required material.

Our solution

Our solution

The client wanted us to install some printed acoustic wall panels (COUSTpanels). However, it turned out that there was not so much free space on the walls to hang acoustic wall panels. There was already oak furniture and a custom cabinet in MDF, and so the client was also counting on some sound absorption by this wooden furniture. We tried to maximize the surface area of our acoustic wall panels. We ended up installing almost 7 m² of material.

After extensive communication with the client (without on-site reverberation measurement), it was decided to make the best use of the free space on the walls. We placed 2 smaller wall panels (COUSTpanels) of 120 x 90 cm, and 1 large wall panel of 300 x 150 cm. The latter panel had to be nicely (but narrowly) centered between the closet, the intercom and the window. All wall panels were covered with prints that the client sent us or had chosen from the Shutterstock database. Some tropical landscapes were allowed to brighten up the doctor's office. We performed some minor retouching such as straightening the horizon so that the images would stand out best. The doctor's office now feels more like a place to relax in a tropical atmosphere.
