The problem

The EpiCURA hospital center encompasses 4 outpatient clinics and a dialysis center. These clinics are located on 3 sites: at Ath, Baudour and Hornu. Both for the Ath and Hornu sites, we were already allowed to use our knowledge and skills as acoustic specialists to improve various acoustic situations.

In 2017, we were contacted for the first time by this organization, more specifically for the site at Hornu. In a meeting room, they wanted to reduce the existing reverberation time from 1.2 seconds to 0.7 seconds, which we realized by means of a wall panel (COUSTpanel) of 4 m² with a plain fabric in a color of the customer's choice.

A year later, EpiCURA's purchasing manager contacted us again. Could we provide an acoustic solution for the call center at the Hornu site? In this room, there were 7 employees answering patients' phones every day. Concentration was a challenge as soon as everyone started talking on the phone. So here was clearly a problem of speech intelligibility and call privacy. How did we solve this? Quite simply, we placed several 70 cm high desk screens (COUSTdeskscreens) on the desks, which reduced the decibels and increased the peace and comfort of the employees.

Because of the good results we could already present at the Hornu site, in 2020 the Ath site also contacted us for a solution at the central reception. The receptionists there were located in an enclosed space, consisting of 4 counters where patients could sign in. However, the placement of the counters in the often crowded entrance hall made it difficult for the staff to understand the patients, almost forcing them to communicate the reason for their visit very loudly. In short, an invasion of the patients' privacy. We placed 4 high partition walls (COUSTscreens) on flat feet between the different counters to guarantee more conversational privacy. We covered the walls with our washable cloth VASK, which not only ensured acoustic comfort but also hygiene.
