Johannes XIII-Seminary

Johannes XIII-Seminary

The problem

The problem

In Leuven, near Gasthuisberg and the Lemmens Institute, is the Johannes XIII Seminary. Here those interested can apply for priestly training. The seminarians not only receive training there, but also stay there. We were contacted to improve the acoustics in the dining hall. This brick room was decorated soberly and functionally, and therefore did not offer much absorption surface to absorb reverberation. It was exactly this reverberation that we wanted to eliminate.

Our solution

Our solution

Our acoustical consultant visited to perform a reverberation measurement. It became clear that the room suffered from a reverberation time of 1.6 seconds. Very undesirable in a room where people want to take a lunch break in peace. In consultation with the client, we decided to aim for a reverberation time of no more than 1 second. We were able to achieve this for placing more than 19 m² of our materials.

Result

Result

The client chose a composition of wall panels (COUSTpanels) in different sizes and colors. For the colors, we based ourselves on the color palette already present in the salon. Finally, in the corners at the interior glass windows, we added two acoustic columns (COUSTbase) for additional sound absorption.
