The problem

The problem

In the spring of 2020, we were contacted by these clients to find a solution to the reverberation problem in their renovated family home in Flemish Brabant. The renovation had completely opened up the living space, installed an open kitchen with a loft to the office, and installed large glass windows to the garden. During the renovation, the family had deliberately chosen sleek materials. Unfortunately, this had the side effect that the sound in the living space (dining area, lounge and kitchen) kept reverberating and left an annoying reverberation.

Our solution

Our solution

We went by for a reverberation measurement in order to improve the acoustics in the living space. We made a calculation to reduce the measured reverberation time of 1.5 seconds to a comfortable 0.9 seconds. This quickly turned out to require almost 20 m² of our materials. In our proposal to the customer, we ensured that the absorbent materials were spread throughout the room and placed at strategic locations, always as close as possible to the source sound.

We installed a total of three acoustic ceiling panels (COUSTceiling) and thus 19 m² of our acoustic material: in the lounge (6 m²), above the dining table in the dining area (9.2 m²) and in the kitchen loft (4 m²). We ran some electrical cables for lighting through our ceiling panels, so that those lights could be centrally placed afterwards. The challenge lay in the COUSTceiling in the kitchen, which had to be placed at a height of more than 4 m. The ceiling was slightly curved. After all, the ceiling here was slightly curved. Nevertheless, our skilled installation team was able to solve this perfectly, with a beautiful result and a satisfied customer as a result!
